The skin of this simple modern shed (which is intended to eventually double as a backyard office) takes its cue from the board and batten home to which it belongs. Translucent multi-wall polycarbonate panels allow ample light in while maintaining privacy. They also act as thermal regulators, welcoming winter solar radiation while rejecting summer heat gain. Where additional privacy is desired, the vertical dark-painted wood battens march across the polycarbonate surfaces. The roof and walls are detailed in such a way that the deck seemingly unfolds from the volume, becoming a ramp that negotiates the grade and allows for easy loading and unloading of equipment. The shed’s humble 8’ x 16’ footprint was based on standard plywood dimensioning, allowing for economy of material, labor, and cost.
