Crozet, VA
A family of seven, who frequently enjoys hosting even larger groups, needed a family home design that could balance the spatial demands of entertaining spaces with the privacy and intimacy required for home life. In response, we drew inspiration from the area's agricultural heritage, resulting in Crozet VA architecture that features a series of gabled structures forming the private building blocks around which public spaces flow. This spatial arrangement transforms the kitchen, dining, and living areas—typical realms for entertaining guests—into almost outdoor pavilions that are open, light-filled, and visually connected to the rolling hills of the site. Private spaces such as offices, storage, and bedroom suites are contained within the more opaque gabled structures. A generous roof deck with an outdoor fireplace sits atop the entertaining spaces below. Large openings and windows create a veil between the public areas and the outdoors, while smaller, punched windows serve the traditional barn-like volumes, merging modern and tradition into a unified whole.
