The client desired to have an indoor pool that was conveniently located, took advantage of sweeping views, and yet preserved views from within the existing home. The resulting solution proposed a detached pool house, in the form of a traditional gable-structure to complement the existing buildings on site. Careful attention was focused on the structure's placement in relationship to the existing home and accompanying courtyard. By offsetting the structure slightly from the existing porch, the pool itself takes advantage of views back through the existing courtyard as well as to the fields beyond. This also allows for a covered outdoor connection to a new lower deck adjacent to the pool structure. Scissor trusses with punched skylights were selected to maximize the scale and feel of the room while still keeping the construction to a modest budget. We designed fewer, larger openings in strategic locations instead of traditional smaller punched windows sprinkled throughout; this allows the pool to feel almost as if it's in an outdoor pavilion.
